For another year running, the National Geographic magazine has included Montefrío as one of the top most beautiful medieval towns in the whole of Spain, the only town listed throughout Andalucia.
In 2015, the same magazine ranked Montefrío as the fourth town in the top 10 ‘towns with the best views’ in the world, which has seen an influx of visitors from across the globe ever since.
There are several viewpoints (miradors) around the town, each showing off the spectacular views of Montefrío and the surrounding countryside – including the one that made us stop the car all those years ago and say “one day we’ll live here”.
Shortly after being crowned a ‘top 10 town in the world’, the Mayoress unveiled a ‘selfie ready’ monument for both visitors and locals to record their moment in this beautiful part of the world and naming a mirador after the magazine.

The world might be different at the moment but it’s thanks to the recognition and the accolades awarded by magazines such as National Geographic (it goes without saying the views help too) that will continue to bring visitors to Montefrío – but only of course when current restrictions reduce.
