There are many places to explore and discover in the surrounding areas of Montefrío. Here are just a few places of interest, which we will add to as and when we discover them ourselves.
Alcalá la Real – 25km
A large town north east of Montefrío with numerous supermarkets, shops, a market (Tuesdays) and a 13th/14th century castillo – Fortaleza de la Mota.
Lake Iznájar – 43km
West of Montefrío is the reservoir where you can take a picnic, take a stroll or take to the water in a canoe or pedalo.
Priego de Córdoba – 36km
North west of Montefrío there is plenty do see and do in this town from its historic castle, churches and architectural buildings to the museum of the almond.
Rio Frío – 45km
If you travelled from Malaga airport, you will have driven past Rio Frío. This small village is famous for its trout fishing and countryside walks. Take in the scenery, try your hand at fishing or just sample the trout in one of the restaurants.
Moclín – 25km
East of Montefrio, this hillside village offers breathtaking views of the town and castle. You can discover and explore the many caves and shelters and see numerous cave paintings.
Looking for some sea and sand as part of your holiday? There are several beaches that are between one and a half and two hours by car such as Playa de Granada in between Mottril and Salabroeña or Playa Burriana in Nerja.
